11. Content Construction Kit (CCK)

The module CCK shows a breath-taking career. Fundamentally, the idea for this module was the necessity to produce own content types with own fields. CCK began its triumphant procession in Drupal 4.7, replaced the Flexinode module and could indeed create own content types with additional fields. The idea was well received, so that, already in Drupal 5, the creation of own content types entered the Drupal core.

CCK provides further for additional fields.

And these additional fields are outstanding! Apart from fields for text, links, email and reference fields to other contents and users, there are by now 153 modules in Drupal 5, that are based on CCK and expand the module. Among them are fields for date values, images, videos, guitar chords, art galleries etc.

CCK in Drupal 6 is currently available in a release candidat.

There will surely be a stable release until the publication of the book.
